Basic Fire Safety
| Site specific basic fire safety training is now a requirement for all staff under the new Fire Safety Order 2005.
All staff should receive basic fire safety induction training and attend refresher sessions at pre-determined intervals. Staff and contractors should be told about the emergency fire evacuation plan and shown escape routes. The training should also take into account the findings of your fire risk assessment. |

Course overview
It is designed to provide basic fire safety knowledge, in order that employees are aware of what to do in the event of a fire and how to help maintain a fire safe environment. The course may be tailored to suit varying industries and can range in duration from 1-2 hours. A practical session on fire extinguishers is set within the course if required, providing a suitable area is available, this takes approximately 30 - 40 minutes, depending on the number of delegates.
Aims
To improve personal awareness of the dangers of fire and the hazards associated with it. To demonstrate the necessary skills in dealing with fire emergencies, including safe evacuation of a building in the event of an emergency. To be able to operate safely and efficiently any fire extinguisher within the workplace.
Learning Objectives
On completion of our course the delegates will know:
- The items listed in their emergency plan.
- The importance of fire doors and other basic fire prevention measures.
- Where relevant, the appropriate use of firefighting equipment.
- The importance of reporting to their assembly area.
- Exit routes and operation of exit devices, including walking these routes.
- General matters such as permitted smoking areas or restrictions on cooking other than in designated areas.
- Assisting disabled persons where necessary (training is required)
- When staff start employment or are transferred into the premises
- When changes have been made to the emergency plan and the preventive and protective measures.
- Where working practices and processes or people's responsibilities change
- To take account of any changed risks to the safety of staff or other relevant persons
