Evacuation Drills

Procedure overview
Emergency Fire Evacuation procedures are an integral part of any organisations fire safety policy. It is a legal requirement to undertake regular evacuation drills of all premises where persons are employed to work. The evacuation drill takes approximately 20 minutes including debrief and full written report, but can be tailored to suit varying organisations.

Aims
To be able to evacuate a building safely and efficiently, in a minimum time, to designated assembly points, in a fire emergency.

To be able to follow a designated emergency fire evacuation plan with predetermined ‘safe routes’.

To be aware of all company policies and procedures relating to emergency fire evacuations.

To have an understanding of the need to role call, report and liaise with the fire service in the event of a fire emergency.

Learning Objectives
On completion of the session the delegates should …

  1. Evacuate a building safely and efficiently within a given time frame.
  2. Be aware of company policies and procedures detailing information on evacuation procedures.
  3. Be aware of the legal requirements for regular emergency evacuation drills.
  4. Understand the role and responsibilities of the fire warden & fire marshal.
  5. Recognize potential hazards in poor house-keeping, ignition sources and blocked fire exit routes.

Prerequisites
None.

Who should take part in the procedures?
All employees and anyone within the building at the time of the emergency fire evacuation.
