Fire Risk Assessment
The Law
Where persons are employed to work, it is a requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 to carry out a fire risk assessment.
Where there are 5 or more employees, the findings of the risk assessment must be recorded in writing.
Who should carry out the Assessment?
The person carrying out the fire risk assessment must be competent (knowledge, training and experience).
FireQuest UK Ltd only employs qualified and experienced ex-Fire Service officers to carry out fire risk assessments.
What areas are covered in our fire risk assessment reports?
Following the practical on-site risk assessment you will receive a detailed legally compliant written report covering all areas of the assessment, this will include:
A management overview.
Full fire risk assessment including:
A. Ignition Sources
B. Combustible Materials
C. Prevention and Management
D. Means of Escape
E. Fire Service Operational Procedures
Digital Photography of Risk Areas.
Summary of all fire risk areas together with ‘who is at risk’ and how to either reduce or remove the risk to employees and visitors.
How long will it take and what will the cost be?
The cost is based on either half or full day practical on-site assessments, supported by a legally compliant report. Site inspections can take from 2 hours to several days depending on a number of factors including size, layout, type of occupancy and use of buildings.
Audits
Following the initial fire risk assessment it is recommended that a review of the risks takes place on a regular basis by the employer/responsible person, in particular if there are changes taking place within the workplace.
FireQuest UK Ltd will review your original fire risk assessment on an annual basis. This involves an additional site visit to assess the progress of items raised in the original fire risk assessment together with an audit to assess any changes affecting your working practices, building layout and any additional areas that may affect your legal compliance.
Changes to Fire Regulations October 1st 2006
From the 1st October 2006 any building which held a fire certificate under the old Fire Precautions Act 1971 will have the certificate abolished, this should have now been replaced by a fire risk assessment report as identified above. A report issued on behalf of FireQuest UK Ltd will satisfy these requirements.
